I became interested in photography while modelling. The stylistic interpretations by the photographers were surprisingly varied and I became intrigued with what I might be able to create given the right training and equipment. Fortunately, I am very blessed with some wonderful and talented friends who helped encourage my interest.
A few years ago, I reached a crossroad in my life, and I decided take the plunge and go back to school to study advanced photography and to build a career focussed on creative stylistic expression using the camera as my canvas. In June 2019, I successfully completed this two year adventure at the ‘Fotovakschool’ Amsterdam.
The kind of photography I am interested in is quite diverse. Due to my ties in the entertainment industry. the natural course was initially to focus there, but my interests then broadened to portraits, automobiles, children, etc. . . but I also like to challenge boxes.
Though I have a broad range of interests and extensive social contacts but I also tend to drift towards the less mainstream side of photography. In particular, how people address the personal emotional damage in their search for beauty and ultimately contentment. Their approach may be through simplicity, distraction, intensity, rejection of (or submission to) conformity and many other ways. All ways that may help heal their damaged inner child.
The LGBT community has also been close to my heart, which is why several of my models are LGB and/or T. I want to take beautiful photos of beautiful people- but to capture the essence of their search. I go for a vibe that’s sensual, fun and edgy as part of how people address their emotional issues.
The style of Unwerth has been an amazing source of inspiration for me as her photo’s ooze with sexuality but also have an innocent and light feeling to them. Rankin who always manages to create both meaningful and beautiful projects!
My goal is to create art through the search for beauty and inner contentment.
